Writer Rhianna Pratchett, who penned the scripts for Mirror's Edge, Overlord and the Tomb Raider reboot, spoke about her initial vision for Lara Croft.
As it turned out, Rihanna originally wanted to make a gay heroine, but the developers from Crystal Dynamics did not want to delve into this topic. At the same time, they were not against such a decision either, so in the 2013 restart there were some hints that Lara and her friend Samantha had a closer relationship than friendly.
Pratchett, reading fan stories about the game, feels proud that she was able to skillfully realize the chemistry between Lara and Samantha, while not showing anything directly. In addition, the writer wants more representation in the Tomb Raider franchise, which she believes is great for diversity in gender, sexuality, background, and age.
At the end, Rihanna noted that she does not know any details about the upcoming projects of the Tomb Raider series, but she is sure that something interesting awaits all players. Earlier it became known that the next game about Lara Croft is being developed on the Unreal Engine 5.
